How To Sell Server Memory
Put your customer first – and increase
your commission
Why server memory is more important than ever before
Traditionally, businesses saw server memory as a means to an end: it was just a component they
needed for their servers. Now server DRAM is a mission-critical component. It’s where active data
lives and what virtualized apps run on, so you want to maximize your customer’s competitive advantage
by installing as much of it as possible. When selling server memory, you can win trust (and future
orders) by putting quality and reliability first. You want your customers to avoid downtime at all costs.
You want them to never have to exercise a warranty. And you want to prevent module failure at all
costs. You want them to have modules that were actually made by the component manufacturer.
WHAT TO DO: Sell server memory that’s manufactured start to finish, not just end-assembled.
Recommend Crucial server memory, which is the only major channel brand
that’s made start-to-finish by a true manufacturer.
Why this approach works
1 There are only three major DRAM component manufacturers: Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix.
Crucial is a brand of Micron.
2 Many third party brands claim to be component manufacturers, when they’re really assemblers who
use a variety of components from a variety of vendors to piece together server modules.
3 Server OEMs don’t manufacture memory, they manufacture servers. When you see an OEM’s label
on a module, it means it’s been made elsewhere and rebranded – an added cost for your customers.
4 The highest level of quality and reliability can only be achieved when every aspect of a memory module
– from choice silicone to finished module – is tested and monitored from start to finish.
5 Every brand has compatible modules, but compatibility isn’t the differentiator. It’s quality.
